What is the Coalition for Archaeological Synthesis?
CfAS partner organizations provide their expertise, services, and facilities for synthesis projects funded by CfAS. CfAS Associates are individuals who support the objectives of the Coalition.
The CfAS Board of Directors solicites proposals for collaborative syntheses projects. The Board also sets the proposal review criteria. These criteria are designed to privilege innovation and diversity in the composition and theoretical approaches of the working groups.
A Review Committee evaluates proposals and recommends working groups for funding. These working groups are to be made up of individuals with diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives; individuals who may have not worked together before, resulting in new, innovative synergies. CfAS' research agenda is determined by the working group proposals. The members of the individual working groups will determine the ontology structuring their group's efforts and products.
